Title

Automotive industry and sustainability: how to promote green transportation

Abstract

In the context of societal pressures, legislative standards, regulatory requirements, and the demonstrable negative environmental impact of the automotive industry, companies are facing increasing pressure to integrate sustainability into their management practices. Due to increasing pressure from shifting stakeholder behavior and expectations, sustainability and corporate social responsibility play a crucial role in management practices. For many organizations such as automotive, logistics, sports organizations, educational institutions etc. this process is still a challenge. This paper aims to identify gaps in the implementation of sustainability in the automotive industry and provide recommendations for the effective integration of sustainability and the promotion of green transport. The research is based on a comparison of sustainability implementation practices in the largest automotive companies in Slovakia. In addition to enhancing competitiveness, financial sustainability, and market position, such implementation has a broader societal impact, contributing to systemic change in green transportation. The research identifies gaps and opportunities to optimize the implementation of sustainability, provides recommendations for companies that have not yet adopted sustainability practices, and offers guidance for effective implementation. The study reveals that although companies implement sustainability measures, significant gaps and inefficiencies remain. Addressing these gaps could enhance the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives, enhance organizational performance, contribute to mitigating societal problems related to transportation, reduce negative environmental impacts, and improve the quality of life.
